La Pasionaria: A Musical Epitaph

by The Whistlebinkies

/

about

Commissioned by Ian Green as part of a music project exploring the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Eddie McGuire chose as his focus Dolores Ibárruri whose inspiring speeches led to her being called 'La Pasionaria'.

lyrics

Leading with her clear and fearless mind,
Passionate but kind;
Stopping in their tracks the men of war!
Calling out to stand up, defend
What the people fought for!

Dolores Ibárruri, La Pasionaria,
We will remember you,
Inspired by you

Liderando con tu mente clara y sin temor,
Apasionada, pero amable;
Detienendo en sus pasos a los hombres de guerra!
Llamando a la resistencia
A defender la lucha del pueblo!

Dolores Ibárruri, La Pasionaria,
Te recordaremos,
Inspirados por ti

about

The Whistlebinkies Glasgow, UK

Formed in the late 1960s in Glasgow, Scotland, the band made a substantial contribution to the development of Scottish traditional music during the subsequent decades. They led the revival of the bellows-blown bagpipes and were the first ensemble to combine the Celtic harp, fiddle and pipes in regular performance.

Bandcamp material is not found on the band's Claddagh, Greentrax and Lochshore CDs.
