about

The Spirit of Flight was commissioned by British Aerospace for the gala to launch the Jetstream 41 at their Prestwick facility on March 27, 1991 in a performance by The Whistlebinkies, Glasgow Festival Strings and dancers of Scottish Ballet, conducted by James Durrant. It includes the voice of the band's clarsach player of the time, Judith Peacock, who sings Eddie's setting of a poem from Carmina Gaedelica which he titled Taladh (Lullaby). At the end she sings an evocation of birds, set to music by Eddie from the same source. It was given its first concert performance by the same musicians on midsummer night 1991 in Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow.

The Whistlebinkies Glasgow, UK

Formed in the late 1960s in Glasgow, Scotland, the band made a substantial contribution to the development of Scottish traditional music during the subsequent decades. They led the revival of the bellows-blown bagpipes and were the first ensemble to combine the Celtic harp, fiddle and pipes in regular performance.

Bandcamp material is not found on the band's Claddagh, Greentrax and Lochshore CDs.
